The Next Generation
The Capacity Development Initiative (CDI) is a key element of the Preparatory Commission’s training and education activities focused on building and maintaining the necessary capacity in the technical, scientific, legal and political aspects of the Treaty and its verification regime.
By offering specialized training courses and utilizing online learning and new media, the Commission is expanding the pool of expertise beyond the traditional stakeholders and increasing active engagement on the critical issues underpinning the Treaty. Moreover, CDI training courses and e-learning activities provide enhanced opportunities for the wider community to participate in strengthening and effectively implementing the Treaty and its multilaterally established verification regime.
In this way, CDI aims to increase awareness and stimulate understanding of the Treaty in order to promote its entry into force and universalization.
e-learning
A core element of CDI is a robust and interactive e-learning platform, accessible to all registered participants at any time, that features issue specific modules, quizzes and other Treaty-related resources. All CDI course lectures are live streamed and archived for online viewing. In addition, the platform provides participants from around the world with a multitude of opportunities for interaction.

Financial Support for CDI
The CTBTO would like to highlight the generous contributions provided by Austria and Norway toward the Capacity Development Initiative, and in particular the Advanced Science Course on the CTBT verification technologies. Without such substantial contributions, these initiatives would not be possible. Through their generous contributions, Austria and Norway demonstrate a shared vision with the CTBTO to train and educate the next generation of experts on the CTBT.
